Education protected hours occur on a weekly basis from 7am to 10am. The third hour on Wednesday mornings is typically dedicated to resident education. Topics include career development, visiting professorship resident rounds, mock orals, anatomy lab, and journal club. Sessions are often led by resident champions, enabling residents of all levels to participate in peer education.

The Division of General Surgery quickly adapted to the unprecedented circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and has developed an expanded learning curriculum led by residents with direct attending involvement. Teaching sessions include recorded virtual conferences on “This is how I do it--Operative Technique Sessions”, “Pearls and pitfalls of surgical diseases”, and “Virtual Journal Club” addressing sentinel literature on common general surgery problems.
