UCLA has performed several studies in pediatric surgery examining parent attitude towards shared decision making in management of appendicitis, as well as studies examining non-operative management of appendicitis. Our residents rotate at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital as interns and senior residents, serving as first assistants on a breadth of pediatric surgical cases, including imperforate anus repair, Hirschprung’s disease, and ECMO cannulations. They also rotate at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA) during their R4 year to experience at a freestanding children’s hospital and develop clinical and research relationships with faculty there.
