The UCLA General Surgery Residency Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP or “The Match”) and will accept applications only via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
The steps to apply are as follows:
o Dean’s letter (MSPE)
o Medical school transcript with grades
o Personal statement
o USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores (We do not have a cut off score. We review your application as a whole)
o Three letters of recommendation
o All graduates from foreign medical schools must have certification from the Education Committee for Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) before your application is reviewed.
We generally begin reviewing applications in October and send out interview invites shortly thereafter. This year, because of covid-19, we will be holding all interviews virtually via Zoom.
Our interview dates for this cycle are:
Although we can’t have you here in person, we’ll do our best to give you a good feel for the program via Zoom. On your interview day, we will invite you to attend part of our weekly educational conferences, including grand rounds and M&M. You will have the opportunity to meet our residents and talk with them about their experiences in the program and life in Los Angeles. You will have individual Zoom interviews with the program director, associate program director, and 3-4 faculty members.
Applications are reviewed in January. Interviews are held by phone.
Once you are invited for an interview, please specify your choice of dates via ERAS email to Chi Quach. You will receive an e-mail confirmation via ERAS. All interviews should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. If for some reason your plans should change and you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please be sure to call to cancel as we usually have a waiting list for our interview dates.
