U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best Hospital Honor Roll recognizing the country’s top 20 medical centers has included UCLA Health for 31 consecutive years. In 2020-21, UCLA Medical Center has placed #5 in Pulmonology & Lung Surgery in the Nation.
Our surgeons are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the thoracic cavity including the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, pleura, trachea and airways, diaphragm, and chest wall.
We practice at the forefront of the field, implementing modern techniques including video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS), laparoscopic surgery, image-guided surgery, and advanced endoscopy and bronchoscopy.
In addition to our commitment to clinical excellence, the UCLA Division of Thoracic Surgery is a leader in innovation via our multiple research programs, including clinical trials. We are also a highly-regarded training program in thoracic surgery.
At UCLA, we believe that multidisciplinary care results in the best outcomes. We collaborate with our expert colleagues in pulmonology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, gastroenterology, radiology, and nuclear medicine to provide you with the optimal care for your specific problem. Both cancer and benign cases are discussed in multidisciplinary conferences to achieve this goal.
